Where people camp near Broome

Camping in Broome is mainly in licensed parks. The Shire of Broome lists seven licensed caravan parks in the immediate townsite, and several accept pets all year. In peak season, when permanent parks are full, the Shire can open up to three temporary caravan parks, with a maximum stay of seven days.

Camping outside a licensed park is not allowed. That includes sleeping in a vehicle, tent, caravan or swag. Camping on private property needs the owner's permission, for up to three days.

When to go

The Shire asks campers to book early between May and September, especially in school holidays. At Broome Airport, January averages a top of 33.4°C and a low of 26.4°C, while July is 29.0°C and 13.7°C. January is the wettest month at about 200 mm, and October is the driest at about 1 mm (Bureau of Meteorology). Most rain falls from December to March.

Good to know

  • Council rule: the Shire's rangers patrol for illegal camping, and anyone camping outside a licensed park or private property without permission can get an on-the-spot fine.
  • Stays on private property beyond three days need a Camping Application to the Shire.
  • Fire bans: a total fire ban is declared by local government area and usually lasts 24 hours from midnight. The hotline is 1800 709 355.
  • For site availability, call the Broome Visitor Centre on (08) 9195 2200.

What “unverified suggestion” means

Most places here come from OpenStreetMap, a free map anyone can edit. Someone added the place there, and Trek Eleven has not visited it. It may be closed, private, full or in a different spot. If you find an error, fix it in OpenStreetMap so everyone gains.

About the government lists

A ring on the map is a place from a state government list: a rest area, or a State Forest recreation site. We show each list as supplied, with the month its data is from, and credit it below. These lists can be old, and a rest area is often day-use only, so check the signs. Where a list says a place is closed, we show its words and its dates.

Check before you go
